Anže Kopitar is one of Slovenia’s most accomplished athletes on the global stage. As the first Slovenian to play in the NHL, Anže Kopitar spent his entire 20-year NHL career with the Los Angeles Kings, winning two Stanley Cup titles and captaining the franchise for ten seasons. His achievements and professionalism have made him one of the most respected figures in the game.
Throughout his career, Kopitar received numerous individual honours, including the Mark Messier Leadership Award, presented annually to the NHL player who demonstrates exceptional leadership both on and off the ice while making a positive impact in the community. His legacy with the Kings will be honoured through the retirement of his No. 11 jersey and the unveiling of a statue at Crypto.com Arena, the highest individual recognition awarded by the franchise.
Anže Kopitar also represented Slovenia at its historic Olympic ice hockey debut at the 2014 Winter Olympics in Sochi, helping the national team reach the quarterfinals.
Beyond hockey, Kopitar recently became an ambassador of Botrstvo v športu, a programme supporting talented young athletes and para-athletes from socially disadvantaged backgrounds.
At SPORTO 2026, Anže Kopitar will join us for an exclusive conversation about leadership, team culture, the business of elite sport and lessons from two decades competing at the highest level.
