The 19th edition of SPORTO Conference is successfully under the roof! The Winter Experience in Planica, the venue of FIS World Championship in Nordic Skiing 2023, was more concentrated and more intense comparing to last years as we prepared the conference in one day only, but we were even more excited as we shared with the audience the unique backdrop at the skiing paradise in Planica. We had a very excited Wednesday with some of renowned experts from the sports marketing and sponsorships industry again. And we are already looking forward to the jubilee 20th edition in year 2024!

NLB believes in success and is proud to support Slovenian athletes
“Sport is exciting and uniting. Our athletes’ hard work, sacrifice, success and triumph, but also the ability to accept defeat with dignity is where we find inspiration that can often be put to good use in our business environment. The sport mentality is precisely what our economy and entrepreneurship need in this global arena, but we would also like to see more of it in other social subsystems. This is the reason why the NLB has been proud to support Slovenian sports for many decades”, says Blaž Brodnjak, CEO.
In addition to sponsoring football, handball, skiing, table tennis, basketball on wheels or the NLB Wheel League, which have been traditionally supported by the NLB, they have this year extended their support to the Cedevita Olimpija Basketball Club, regional Aba League, national volleyball team, Nordic disciplines, biathlon and Volleyball World Cup as well as five major winter events in Slovenia – women’s Ljubno Ski Jump World Cup, Biathlon World Cup Pokljuka, Alpine Ski World Cups Golden Fox and Vitranc and Ski Jump World Cup in Planica.
And that’s not all. In addition to loudly cheering on professional athletes, they have a project called NLB Sport for Youth, with which they pay special attention and are happy to support young people in local community sport clubs throughout Slovenia, encouraging young people to exercise and lead an active life, as their commitment contributes significantly to the development and growth of a healthy and responsible society. They hold entertaining workshops to teach young athletes about finances, how to handle them with care and this way help them properly manage their money. In season 8 of this project, the NLB plans to support a record 65 clubs from 40 Slovenian towns.

That is why, as previously mentioned, we have been cheering on and supporting our athletes for many decades. We take great pride in the NLB Sport for Youth project, which we have been carrying out for almost a decade, extending our support to sports clubs throughout Slovenia, which are fully committed to young people, encouraging them to work out and have an active lifestyle and, above all, to develop a balanced value system and working habits,” continues to explain the CEO and Chairman of the NLB Management Board.

European Youth Olympic Festival – EYOF 2023 MARIBOR
European Youth Olympic Festival (EYOF) is under the honorary patronage of the President of the Republic of Slovenia, dr. Nataše Pirc Musar
About the festival
Between July 23 and 29, 2023, the city of Maribor will become the capital of sports in Europe, as it will host the European Youth Olympic Festival – EYOF. It is the largest sports event for young athletes between the ages of 14 and 18, which is organized by the Municipality of Maribor in cooperation with the Slovenian Olympic Committee. 48 European countries will participate in EYOF 2023 Maribor and athletes will compete in eleven sports disciplines. In the city, in addition to the 3.600 participants of EYOF, we expect approximately 800 officials, technical delegates, media, … 800 volunteers and approximately 5.000 supporters, families, … from abroad and Slovenia.
Positive effects for the city and the region
EYOF 2023 Maribor is an event of national importance that will have significant effects on the city of Maribor, the region and the country. In addition to the renewed sports infrastructure, the organization of the festival will bring many socio-economic effects to the city, such as new business opportunities, increased tourist interest in Slovenia, increased organizational knowledge (‘know-how’), a higher level of national pride among the local population, promotion and increased reputation the city of Maribor.
The legacy of the festival
An important legacy of the European Youth Olympic Festival – EYOF will certainly be the renewed sports infrastructure and sports equipment, which are important for the further development of sports in the city and region.
Young athletes will thus be provided with appropriate conditions for the further development of their sports career, and the city of Maribor will be able to organize sports competitions at the highest level, both at the national, European and world level.
Laško a legendary character

Tina Maze – Country’s ambassador
The best Slovenian skier of all time, an athlete who has always been one of those who broke boundaries, even on a global scale. In her career, she won all five ski disciplines: slalom, downhill, giant slalom, super giant slalom, combined, won Olympic medals of all colours, and was voted Slovenian Sportswoman of the Year six times. In 2012/2013, Tina broke records.
She said goodbye in 2017. The Government Communication Office has already prepared media highlights for journalists in Planica – a presentation of the IFS brand, sports infrastructure and investment in sport, interviews with Slovenian athletes, presentations of Slovenia’s cultural heritage and natural beauty.
