Together we create a sustainable imprint of the SPORTO conference

For the jubilee, 20th edition of the SPORTO conference, we prepared a sustainable action plan and tried to fulfill as many of the set goals as possible. However, since sustainability is primarily people, our habits, attitudes and beliefs, we have also prepared some guidelines for a joint contribution to the realization of sustainable goals.

Zavarovalnica Triglav is this year’s sustainable partner of the event as well, which, under the auspices of the socially responsible partnership Zavarujmo prihodnost, connects all its sponsorships and young hopefuls on the common path of realizing the 17 sustainable goals of the United Nations. The long-standing mobility partner of the conference, Toyota, is also providing a fleet of sustainable vehicles for the transportation of our speakers this year. The return of the “home” conference to Portorož also passed the sustainability test, as it boasts a unique geographical location and proximity to international airports, and Center Portus, LifeClass Hotels & Spa, already implements certain sustainable principles, which we will present below.

The key is that we all recognize that sustainability is everyone’s mission, although mission may not be the best choice of word, because our mission never ends. You are invited to contribute your share through simple actions.

Sustainable guidance for everyone

MOBILITY

Sharing transport – carpooling. Transportation to the conference by private car with fellow passengers, friends, colleagues is a great opportunity to build bonds and pass the time faster. Fewer cars, fewer emissions, easier access to a parking space.

Choosing a personal vehicle. If you have a choice, opt for transportation with a car with a more environmentally friendly drive (hybrid vehicles and e-vehicles).

Public transport. If possible, we recommend using public transport.

Active arrival. If you live near the venue within up to 10 km, we recommend an active arrival at the conference by e-bike, e-skiro, bicycle, or on foot.

PARTNERSHIPS AND EXPANSION OF KNOWLEDGE

Making new acquaintances. The SPORTO conference is an excellent opportunity to establish contacts, conclude partnerships and weave successful stories. Use its potential.

Integration. Expand your network of acquaintances and partnerships, even outside your industry. Expand your knowledge, competences and listen to the experiences of others just as intensively. Allow your paths to cross and look for intersections.

Innovations. Listen to the speakers, ask them questions. The program of the SPORTO conference is always formed by a selection of presentations of advanced practices from the world of sports sponsorship with the ambition that they are recognized as such, and then thoughtfully woven into new emerging sports sponsorships of excellence in an innovative way.

HEALTH AND WELL-BEING

Active breaks and sea air. Portorož is distinguished by its exceptional natural ambience, so take advantage of the breaks during the conference and enjoy at least a little fresh air.

FOOD AND BEVERAGE

No food waste. Order what you love. Take as much as fits the stomach, not the eyes.

Local food. Choose native, local, whenever you’re presented with a choice. Banana or apple? There is no doubt in which fruit there are more vitamins, especially in autumn.

Own bottle, water bottle. In Slovenia, we have the privilege of being able to drink water from the tap, so bring your own bottle and fill it with water.

Separation of waste. Biological waste; paper, cardboard, packaging; glass and other waste. Our common tantra.

And what else will be sustainable at the venue?

Sustainable principles of LifeClass Hotels & Spa: They do not use plastic glasses, straws and water bottles, but exclusively glasses and bottled water. The rooms have water showers (low-flow showers), as well as low-flow toilets, at least 80 percent of which are energy-efficient LED bulbs, which are used in the lighting of guest rooms and common areas.

They also provide guests with several electric charging stations for cars, they take care of waste separation and the least amount of wasted food from hotel kitchens, and employees receive regular training. Guests have the opportunity to decide when they want to change towels and are encouraged to reuse them.

The organizers of the SPORTO conference: at the implementation level, we strive to reduce the consumption of paper and printing, to provide as many diverse digital solutions as possible, minimalist printed single-use branding, to direct suppliers to consider and provide sustainable solutions, to involve the local community and to cooperate with students from the Faculty of Tourism Studies in Portorož, raising awareness of the necessity of long-term sponsorship partnerships, as they ensure stability in the education and breeding of talents whose successes are at the highest level they contribute a positive effect to the whole society.

In the design of the program, content and selection of speakers, we strive to achieve gender equality, inclusion, provide quality content for common progress, opportunities for innovation, and encourage opportunities to connect with various institutions and enter into partnerships.
